Crocs Company 271 Million

Crocs Company 271 Million - By definition fads come and go. When a hot new product or service hits the Street and everyone falls in love with it, sales and earnings will quickly sky rocket. But popularity doesn’t always lead to longevity, because unless there is a real niche or true customer loyalty, that popularity can be quite short lived.

That looked to be the case with Crocs, Inc., (CROX) a maker of specialty shoe and footwear products that jumped from an IPO Price of $13 in February on 2006 to an all-time high over $75 in the fall of 2007.
But that’s when things turned a big ugly. Shares took a big hit after the company announced sales were slowing, and when you throw in the financial crisis from 2008, CROX actually traded below $1 as the market worried about its survival.

But since then, a remarkable thing has happened. Crocs actually returned from the edge of darkness, steadily grinding higher over the last few years as earnings did the same. Shares suffered a sharp pullback in October of last year, but with earnings and estimates on the rise, all that did was sweeten the valuation picture. Let’s go ahead and take a closer look at the company that has defied the odds, beaten fad culture and developed a loyal following.

Q2 Results

The last we heard from CROX was in late April with strong Q1 results that came in ahead of expectations. Sales for the period were up 20% from last year to $271 million. Earnings also looked good at 31 cents, 19% ahead of expectations, building on the company’s impressive Q4 results from early in the year that included a 50% earnings surprise. All in, CROX has an average earnings surprise of 28% over the last four quarters.

That latest report revealed a number of strengths in the CROX business model.
Strengths

The first is the company’s geographic diversification, with sales up 17% in America and 41% in Asia helping to counter some general weakness in Europe where sales were down 3%. That strong international exposure helps insulate CROX from regional weakness. It also highlights the company’s strategy of going after emerging, growth markets like China, with millions of potential customers sitting on discretionary income.

The company also continues to grow its store count quite aggressively, climbing to 439 from 371 last year. That helped push retail sales up an impressive 33% to $61 million, now comprising 22% of total sales. It also appears that the extra stores are not cannibalizing existing stores, with same-store sales up 10.2% from last year.

George Boedecker Arrested DUI

George Boedecker Arrested DUI - George Boedecker, 51, allegedly told police that country singer Taylor Swift had been driving - but she was thousands of miles away at the time. A Crocs co-founder was arrested and charged with drunken driving in a bizarre confrontation where he allegedly blamed country crooner Taylor Swift - who was thousands of miles away.
The trouble began for George Boedecker, 51, on Sunday when the entrepreneur was discovered slumped over the wheel of a black Porsche in Boulder, Colorado.
Police and paramedics said that when Boedecker got out of the car, which was partially on the sidewalk, he had trouble keeping his balance and was slurring his words.

A witness told police that Boedecker had gotten out of the car, and first said that he had pulled over to take a nap.
He later changed his story completely, saying that his girlfriend had been driving, and she is 'bats*** crazy.'
Boedecker, whose other business ventures include Domino's Pizza and Quizno’s, was approached by an officer, who asked what had happened.
A police report obtained by TheSmokingGun.com said that Boedecker told the officer that his girlfriend had been driving, and she ran away after the two had an argument.
When asked about the girlfriend, Boedecker told the officer that she is a singer who is 'really famous.' He then asked if the officer had ever heard of Taylor Swift.
Shortly after that, Boedecker was arrested, but he apparently was not done talking, as the officer noted that the philanthropist told him and another responding officer to 'go f*** themselves in the a**' and that he hoped the cop would 'f****** die.'
Unfortunately for Boedecker and his story, Swift was in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, at the time of his arrest with her actual boyfriend Conor Kennedy and his family - about 2,000 miles away.
And while Swift has dated such A-listers as Jake Gyllenhaal, Taylor Lautner, and John Mayer, there is no evidence to suggest she has ever been romantically linked to Boedecker.
On Monday, however, she was in Nashville, announcing plans to release her fourth studio album - 'Red' - on October 22.
She said during a live web chat that the album is all about emotions. Swift said: 'They're all pretty much about the kind of tumultuous, crazy, insane, intense, semi-toxic relationships that I've experienced in the last two years.' She added: 'All those emotions spanning from intense love, intense frustration, jealousy, confusion, all of that, in my mind all those emotions are red. There's nothing in between. 'There's nothing beige about any of those feelings.'

lee hamilton's wife

lee hamilton's wife,Nancy Hamilton Dead: Wife Of Former Congressman Lee Hamilton Dies After Car AccidentNancy Hamilton, wife of former Rep. Lee Hamilton (D-Ind.), died this weekend after a car accident in which she was apparently run over by her own vehicle. The accident took place on Saturday in the parking lot of a veterinarian's office in Bloomington, Ind., where Hamilton, 82, was taking her dog for an appointment. She exited her vehicle to retrieve the animal, but reportedly left the car in gear.
Investigators believe that as she circled the car, the vehicle rolled backwards, hitting and running over her. Monroe County Coroner Nicole Meyer told The Bloomington Herald-Times that Hamilton suffered head and chest injuries and succumbed to the trauma within hours of being transported to a local hospital.

Hamilton and her retired husband had recently completed their move to Bloomington to begin a new life. The former congressman had most notably followed up on his 35-year career of congressional service with a position as the vice chairman of the 9/11 Commission. He currently serves as the director of Indiana University's Center on Congress, which he helped create.

Officials around the state responded to the news with shock and distress.

"Nancy Hamilton was a lovely and gracious woman," Sen. Dan Coats (R-Ind.) said. "She was a true supporter and partner to Lee and his career serving our state and country. Our thoughts and prayers are with Lee and the Hamilton family during this difficult time.”

U.S. Rep. Joe Donnelly, a Democrat who is running for Senate in Indiana, released this statement:

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Congressman Lee Hamilton and his family tonight following their tragic loss. Both my wife, Jill, and I were fortunate to have known Nancy Hamilton, and she was extraordinarily gracious and kind in every way. We send our condolences to her family and friends. The Hamiltons served our state and country for many years, and Nancy will be dearly missed.”Karen and I were shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Nancy Hamilton. Mrs. Hamilton and her husband raised a wonderful family and made an enormous contribution to the life of our state and our nation. Our hearts and prayers go out to Lee and their entire family during this difficult time."

Hamilton is survived by her husband, Lee, as well as three children and five grandchildren

jerry sandusky and booster private plane

jerry sandusky and booster private plane,Jerry Sandusky, Penn State Booster Sexually Abused Boys On Private Plane: Witness A witness interviewed by federal authorities claims convicted child molester Jerry Sandusky and a Penn State booster sexually assaulted boys on a private plane, according to an exclusive RadarOnline report.U.S. Postal Inspectors interviewed the witness after opening a new investigation into whether Sandusky shared child pornography.

The witness, who "has a strong tie to the booster he is accusing," claims that Sandusky and the fundraiser abused two boys on a private plane in Pennsylvania, the site reported. RadarOnline's unidentified source doesn't know whether the two boys are among Sandusky's previously identified victims.

It remains unclear why the witness did not come forward during the trial against Sandusky, who was convicted on 45 counts related to the sexual abuse of 10 boys. Federal authorities are reportedly investigating the new claims, which remain uncorroborated.

Sandusky, a former assistant football coach, awaits sentencing for his crimes. Meanwhile, the NCAA imposed a multi-year bowl ban on the Penn State football team, invalidated 112 of its victories and fined the school $60 million, according to the Associated Press.

kangaroos eat grass

kangaroos eat grass,Kangaroo is an amazing mammalian species known for its hoping movement. With large distinctive foot, this largest marsupial animal is indigenous to Australia. Taxonomically, kangaroo is a member of the Macropodidae family with over 47 species. It possesses some of the interesting attributes, hence learning kangaroo facts is a fascinating topic for kids and animal lovers all across the globe. So what do kangaroos eat and drink in the wild habitat? Do they drink a lot of water? The primary diet of
terrestrial kangaroos is green vegetation. They derive required water from the grasses and vegetation. Of course, kangaroos drink water, but can go without it for a long period. The red kangaroo can live without water for as long as 2-3 months. This is an adaptation, as red kangaroo habitat falls in xeric region.

Taken at a glance, there are two groups of kangaroos, which differ in the body size. The population of larger species (red kangaroo and eastern gray kangaroo) remains unaffected with human intervention, while many of the smaller versions (wallabies) are included in the endangered animals list. Both these terrestrial kangaroos are truly herbivores and feed on grasses, ground covers and other green vegetation.

While eastern gray kangaroo is adapted for grazing grass, the red kangaroo consumes grass and young, succulent buds of shrubs. They tend to rest in shade during daytime, to avoid exposure to scorching heat. Hence, feeding time for these marsupials is either in the early morning or late afternoon, when the environmental temperature drops down to comfortable range. This again contributes to minimizing loss of water from body.

According to the food availability, diets of red kangaroo and tree kangaroo differ slightly. They belong to different taxonomic genus, and differ greatly in their size (the red kangaroo being the larger species). Needless to mention, the tree kangaroo has greater accessibility to tree foliage and fruits. Hence, it prefers to feed on tree leaves, flowers, bark, grains and fruits. Also, it is omnivorous in food habit, and consumes eggs of other animals and birds.
Whether you are referring to large kangaroos in wild or farm kangaroos, one thing remains the same, i.e. these Australian animals are herbivorous. However, those farmed kangaroos are fed with a broad range of foods, including carrots, corn, grains, young shoots of plants and other vegetables. Some animal keepers introduce bread and other nutritious food for feeding kangaroo. The formulated food for kangaroo is similar to dry version of vegetarian dog food.

If you are wondering about what do baby kangaroos eat, they remain in the mother's pouch for the purpose of suckling and protecting from predators. At birth, the young kangaroo (joey) weighs a fraction of an ounce. Isn't it hard to believe? But it is true, and the small-sized joey feeds while remaining in the pouch. It completes postnatal period in its mother's pouch, and emerge only after two months.

Similar to cattle and other grazing animal species, kangaroos have the ability to regurgitate already swallowed food and chew it for better digestion. In fact, they are adapted to low nutritious, fiber rich diet. An interesting part with digestive system of kangaroo is harboring beneficial bacteria in the stomach. These microbes not only help in digestion of food particles, but they also reduce the production of methane gas.

A fun fact is that it produces gas in large amounts, which along with other gassy animals contribute to climatic change (at least to some extent). Hence, some experts are of the opinion that encouraging farmers to rear kangaroos for meat will help in minimizing agricultural emissions.

Louisiana, United States

Louisiana, United States,New Orleans. “The Big Easy.” A place where the slow and relaxed tempo of Southern living combined with a unique French and multi-cultural flair. The City’s motto was “Laissez les bons temps rouler”, let the good times roll. The annual Mardi Gras, which reflected the motto, was known worldwide for its immoral excess and constant revelry. It attracted upwards of a million people each and every year.

The French Quarter of New Orleans held particular reverence for Joe Barristar. Although he had been born in the Northeastern part of the United States, he loved the freewheeling and bawdy behavior of the population. From the alcohol hazed strip joints on Bourbon Street to the hung over crazies who practiced walking on their hands on the edge of a two hundred year old stone bridge, this heart of New Orleans had its own unique beat.

Unfortunately, this weirdly happy but “sinking” City always seemed to be the bull’s eye for some type of disaster. Although New Orleans was protected by levees, Hurricane Katrina quickly breached them and turned many areas of the City into swampy death traps. People who were foolish enough to ignore the warnings of disaster were stranded for weeks surrounded by filthy water and constantly under assault by vermin of all kinds.

When the Gulf oil spill happened, it was no surprise that New Orleans would be among the first to experience its impact. Within a few days, oily ooze crept ever closer to the City and the coast of Louisiana. New Orleans fishermen immediately experienced the mess that would shut down their livelihoods and devastate many places on the Gulf coast.

Cajuns and some Creoles

The history of the Cajun is a bit unique. In 1765, the British exiled the French-speaking ancestors of these folks from Acadia, known today as Nova Scotia. In the greatest mass migration in colonial American history, thousands of survivors of the French and Indian War trekked to Louisiana and areas in and around New Orleans.

Cajuns and their Creole cousins shared a similar French foundation. However, the Creoles considered themselves to be civilized city dwellers, the la crème de la crème of New Orleans society. To the bitter end, which came about the time of the Civil War, they stubbornly held on to their French connections. The Cajuns, on the other hand, considered themselves to be rugged self-sufficient country folk. They settled along the bayous and swamps, and avoided city society. These distinctions did blur overtime, but the best of both French cultures were preserved.

Cajun Accident

Early in his early engineering career, Joe did some work around the levees and learned the meaning of “everybody is everybody’s cousin”. It was a phrase reverently and fondly used when referring to the clannish behavior of Cajuns.

His work involved a couple of good ole Cajun boys who fell out of their home built flat-bottom fishing boat, and then drowned. Folks standing on the nearby levees saw the accident and provided great detail:

Apparently, the first good ole boy was steering the boat’s small outboard motor when he made a sudden and unexpected turn. Speculation was he saw some fish and wanted to get into position. After all, catching fish was key – but you had to watch out for those huge self-propelled barges that magically appeared going back and forth in and around New Orleans.

The second good ole boy, with fishing pole in hand and nothing to hang onto, fell into the water. The first good ole boy then jumped in to save him. One problem, in his haste to rescue his buddy, he forgot to turn off the outboard motor.

What happened next was predictable. Without an operator, the outboard motor did what outboard motors do, – and the boat locked into a hard turn to the right. Both fishermen were now trapped inside what boating experts call the “circle of death” created where water is being churned up with air from the spinning propeller. Since people can’t swim in an air water mixture, both good ole boys sank below the surface to be seen later by the local coroner.

Cajun Litigation

In one respect, the Cajun culture wasn’t a whole lot different from the rest of the country. Lawsuits for just about everything were the norm, and a double death case promised big money for the families of the deceased, the community “cousins”, and the local lawyers.

Cousins do come in handy. The attorney for the families of the deceased fishermen was somewhat of a distant relative. However, what was important was that the sheriff was related by marriage to one of the deceased and was the brother of the “other”. The judge, generally oriented to reaching into the deep pockets of industry anyway, was also related to the “other” deceased. Simply put, whenever the plaintiff attorney wanted or needed something he got it without question.

The first major plaintiff request was for a test to see if it was possible to replicate the accident. The original boat and original motor were available, but it was hard to get an accident perspective because of the location. No problem, the sheriff loaned out the department helicopter under the guise that it was training for his deputies and useful in promoting boating safety.

During the test, Joe was in a helicopter looking straight down at the circling accident boat. The test was going well. The instruments were working. Then the unexpected happened. The helicopter slowly spun around and comfortably settled in an open field.

The operator of the “copter” was cussing and Joe heard some new French versions of well known English curse words. However, the words that had the most impact were “this is the 7th time I’ve crashed in one of these “bubble” copters, and I ain’t flying ‘em again”. That was when Joe knew that being only 100 feet up in the air was much preferred to being 1000 feet up.

A meadow along side the levees was the crash site. The pilot had succeeded in putting the damage bird down about 50 feet from a major highway and less than 100 feet from the crowd of folks watching the test. He had also avoided a water landing which almost certainly would have resulted in injury or death, – particularly if a barge just happened to pass by.

Joe started to get out of the copter because there was some concern about the extent of the damage and maybe fire, but the pilot told him the field likely contained poisonous snakes and to best tread carefully. The phrase “Damned if you do or damned if you don’t” perfectly described the situation.

Normally, an aviation accident makes headline news. However, this accident was so rapidly hushed up that it never even made the back pages of the local newspaper or a broadcast on the local radio or television. Joe’s suspicion was that the editor of the local newspaper, who just happened to be the owner of the lone radio and television station, was related to someone on the plaintiff side.

For all intents and purposes, the crash was turned into a Cajun legend probably to be told to children to impress upon them that “flying isn’t safe – and maybe you should hang on when you’re fishing and the boat is moving.”

The entire incident was an impressive demonstration of how family ties affect politics and life in and around New Orleans.

study finds 12 states obesity rates 30 percent

study finds 12 states obesity rates 30 percent, REVEALED: Nearly 4 in 10 are clinically obese in some states, finds shocking fat map of AmericaMississippi is officially the fattest state in the country, with almost 36 per cent of its residents falling under the classification.
The slimmest state is Colorado but even there 21 per cent of people are unhealthily overweight. As the obesity epidemic continues more than a third of the population in 12 U.S. states are clinically
obese.Other offenders include Louisiana, with a rate of 33.4 per cent, West Virginia where the total is 32.4 per cent and Alabama with 32% of its population labeled obese.
Of the 30 states with the highest obesity rates 26 are in the Midwest and South, with many of the healthier states being found along the east coast, including New York, Massachusetts and the District of Columbia. The study, carried out by the Trust for America's Health (TFAH) and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, was conducted over the phone.
It is the first of its kind to include households without landline telephones, bringing in a larger proportion of the population.
Its findings were released on Monday by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, based on body mass index calculations. People with a BMI of 30 or more are considered to be obese and are at risk of serious health defects.
'Obesity has contributed to a stunning rise in chronic disease rates and health care costs. It is one of the biggest health crises the country has ever faced,' said Jeffrey Levi, PhD, TFAH executive director.
'The good news is that we have a growing body of evidence and approaches that we know can help reduce obesity, improve nutrition and increase physical activity based on making healthier choices easier for Americans.
'The bad news is we're not investing anywhere near what we need to in order to bend the obesity curve and see the returns in terms of health and savings.'
The report comes as the U.S. launches initiatives to try to lower the number of dangerously overweight Americans.
In New York mayor Bloomberg banned trans-fat in a move that has since been copied by more than a dozen other state and local governments. He has also banned soft drinks bigger than 16oz.
An Atlanta ad campaign featured images of overweight children with slogans such as 'chubby kids may not outlive parents' to try to promote healthy eating and across the country $70 million in federal funding is available to help states and communities address the root causes of obesity.
Monday's report comes as it is revealed that one in five schoolchildren are obese, with the onus being put on schools to set in place stricter junk food regulations.
The latest report on obesity-related medical bills, from 2011, found that in 2006 costs totaled $147 billion, the majority of which was spent treating diseases such as diabetes.
Experts fear this cost could soar if intervention is unsuccessful.
'Our nation has made important inroads to creating healthier communities,' said Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, MD, RWJF president and CEO.Some cities and states that have taken comprehensive action to address the epidemic are beginning to see declines in their obesity rates. But we need to expand and intensify our efforts. Investing in prevention today will mean a healthier tomorrow for our children.'
Later this summer RWJF and TFAH will release the annual report F as in Fat, analysing state obesity rates and policy efforts to address the epidemic, as well as recommendations.
It will include details on where costs could be saved from citizens achieving a mere five per cent BMI reduction.
For a six-foot-tall person weighing 200 pounds, a 5 per cent reduction in BMI would be the equivalent of losing roughly 10 pounds.
The report will also, for the first time, forecast 2030 obesity rates in each state and the likely resulting rise in obesity-related disease rates and health care costs.
Until 2005 no states had a 30 per cent or more obesity rate. Since 2009 the issue has intesified, with soaring numbers tipping the scales at dangerous levels.

boy scouts obama

boy scouts obama, Obama Boy Scouts Statement: President Opposes Group's Gay BanPresident Barack Obama expressed his opposition to the Boy Scouts of America's reaffirmation of its policy of excluding gays on Wednesday.
The president called the rule, which was renewed in July after a two-year review, "discrimination" in a statement to the Washington Blade.

“The President believes the Boy Scouts is a valuable organization that has helped educate and build character in American boys for more than a century,” White House spokesperson Shin Inouye said. “He also opposes discrimination in all forms, and as such opposes this policy that discriminates on basis of sexual orientation.”

The ban has been faced with opposition by some former scouts, several of whom returned their badges in protest of the rule. Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney also expressed opposition to the ban, saying "all people should be able to participate in the Boy Scouts regardless of their sexual orientation."

Despite the opposition, the Boy Scouts' chief executive, Bob Mazzuca, said most Scout families support the policy, which applies to both adult leaders and Scouts.

The AP reported earlier:

The Scouts cited support from parents as a key reason for keeping the policy and expressed hope that the prolonged debate over it might now subside. Bitter reactions from gay-rights activists suggested that result was unlikely.
The Scouts' national spokesman, Deron Smith, told The Associated Press that an 11-member special committee, formed discreetly by top Scout leaders in 2010, came to the conclusion that the exclusion policy "is absolutely the best policy" for the 102-year-old organization.Smith said the committee, comprised of professional scout executives and adult volunteers, was unanimous in its conclusion – preserving a long-standing policy that was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court in 2000 and has remained controversial ever since.

This isn't the first time Obama has expressed his support for the LGBT community. In May 2012, he became the first sitting president to announce his support for same-sex marriage, and in June he held a Gay Pride Month reception at the White House.

UPDATE: The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) decried the Boy Scouts' "outdated policy" in a press release:

"Our nation’s leaders from across religions and political persuasions have joined hundreds of thousands of Americans in speaking out against the blatant discrimination that the Boy Scouts of America teaches young adults today,” said GLAAD President Herndon Graddick. “It’s clear that this outdated policy will be changing in the future. How long will the Boy Scouts continue to bully young gay Americans into hiding who they are and hurt children of gay parents by denying their parents an opportunity to participate in their children's lives?”

scouts stone rabid beaver

scouts stone rabid beaver, Rabid beaver that attacked Boy Scout leader stoned to death by teenage troop membersA Boy Scout leader of a New York-based troop is recovering after being savagely attacked by a rabid beaver at the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area in Pennsylvania.
Normand Brousseau, 51, of Pine Plains, New York, was swimming in the river with a floating device known as a 'noodle' when the beaver latched onto his chest.

After being bitten and clawed at several times, Mr Brousseau was finally pulled to shore by Nick Hedges, 16, who joined his three fellow Scouts in pelting the deranged creature with stones until it died. Recalling the moment the beaver attached itself to his chest, he told the Poughkeepsie Journal: 'I thought it was a giant carp fish.'
But any such thoughts of over-sized goldfish were soon dispelled as the beaver took a bite at him.Grabbing hold of his aggressor and attempting to cast it away from his body proved only a temporary solution as the rabid creature came back for more, biting at his leg, buttocks, arm, hand and waist.
By then, Mr Brousseau explained, 'the adrenaline kicked in.'
'I grabbed it in its mouth,' he said. 'I had it around its bottom jaw as tightly as I could because I knew it was going to either bite me or bite the boys. I called the Scouts to come give me a hand.'
Mr Hedges of Elizaville, New York, was the first on hand to help the victim and while keeping a careful eye on the beaver, pulled his leader to shore.
Safely on dry land, Mr Brousseau hurled the beaver up onto shore where it turned its attention to the noodle and began ripping it apart.
'We started throwing rocks at it,' Mr Hedges recalled. 'We could see it was still dangerous.'
While the young men wrestled with the beaver, passing canoeists offered to take Mr Brousseau to the other side of the river and to get help and another park visitor witnessing the scene called 911.
Mr Brousseau has dismissed the praise bestowed upon him from parents of Troop 32's members saying he did what he had to do to keep the boys safe.
Nevertheless, Susan Treacy of Stanfordville, whose 15-year-old son, Zach Pruner was also on the trip, said: 'It was very brave of him. Who’d be crazy enough to hang onto a rabid beaver?'
Dutchess County health officials meanwhile claim that an attack from a rabid beaver is unusual and locals to the area struggle to recall the last time something like this happened. The attach, however, follows a similar incident in Virginia's Spotsylvania County in July where eight-year-old Annabella Radnovich and her 11-year-old sister, Alyssa, were playing with their cousins at Lake Anna when a 65 pound beaver bit and scratched their legs.
Stephen Capowski, director of environmental health services for Dutchess County urged people to look out for signs of unusual behaviour among animals that can point to rabies such as sightings of nocturnal animals in daylight hours or aggressive behaviour between domesticated pets.
Mr Brousseau confessed: 'I’m pretty sore' but said he has learned a valuable lesson from the incident.
'When you go out into nature, you always need to veer on the side of caution,' he said. 'Don’t assume a wild animal is not sick. You have to be on your toes at all times.'

rabies treatment for humans

rabies treatment for humans, Humble Rabies Patient to Have Experimental TreatmentZach Jones, the Humble boy who contracted rabiesafter being bitten by a bat in his sleep is being treated with an experimental drug combination that saved the life of the world's only known unvaccinated rabies survivor.
Though the treatment has only worked once (other trials have been unsuccessful, possibly due to bad test conditions), the doctor who invented it, Dr. Rodney Willoughby, is working with the CDCto make this combination of drugs the standard of care in future cases.

Rabiesis caused in humans by the bites of infected animals, which can include any sort of rodent as well as dogs, cats, skunks, and obviously, bats. The disease makes animals unusually agressive, ensuring that they will bite and the virus will be passed along. In our particular area of the US, raccoons are the animals to watch: they account for most cases of rabies. Steer clear particularly of any that are out and about during daylight hours.

New York, New York

New York, New York, It looks like something you’d expect to see launch from Tracy Island.
But this Thunderbirds-style aircraft could be the future of long-haul flights. The hypersonic X-51A WaveRider belongs to the US military and uses a revolutionary ‘scramjet’ engine to reach 4,500mph within seconds.Arduous journeys for holidaymakers could be a thing of the past if the technology takes off. A trip across the Atlantic from London to New York would take the plane just one hour, travelling at five times the speed of sound.

Today the cutting-edge craft will be dropped from a B52 bomber over the Pacific Ocean in its latest test.

It will be flown from Edwards Air Force Base in the Mojave Desert in California, attached to the bomber’s wing. The jet will then be dropped from almost 50,000ft near the Point Mugu promontory. A rocket booster will ignite and speed it up to about Mach 4.5 and, if all goes well, the aircraft’s engine will take over from there, pushing the speed to more than Mach 6 and lifting the craft to 70,000ft.

The mission will last 300 seconds – the longest the craft has ever flown to date. After the historic test, the plane will crash into the sea, and there are no plans to recover it.

Hypersonic flight – which relates to speeds of more than five times the speed of sound – is seen as the next step for aircraft. ‘Attaining sustained hypersonic flight is like going from propeller-driven aircraft to jet aircraft,’ Robert Mercier, deputy for technology in the high speed systems division at the Air Force Research Laboratory in Ohio told the Los Angeles Times.

‘Since the Wright brothers, we have examined how to make aircraft better and faster. Hypersonic flight is one of those areas that is a potential frontier for aeronautics. I believe we’re standing in the door waiting to go into that arena.’

The project is being funded by Nasa and the Pentagon, which hope it can be used for military stealth aircraft and new weapons.

The WaveRider programme is estimated to cost £89million, according to Globalsecurity.org, a website for military policy research. It has had a mixed history, with previous tests being aborted after the engine stalled.

Currently the fastest passenger plane in the world is the Cessna Citation X, which has a top speed of 700mph or Mach 0.9, although it takes only seven passengers.Mach is a measure of the ratio of the velocity of an object, in this case a plane, to the velocity of sound, which equals Mach 1, or 761.2 miles per hour.

Any plane that flies past the speed of sound creates a sonic boom, which often results in a major noise disturbance over close-by areas. Before its 2003 retirement, Concorde was long the shuttle of choice for executives eager to spend as little time as possible in the air and unafraid to shell out thousands for a 3.5-hour transatlantic flight.

An attempt to launch a hypersonic flight in August last year failed when the soaring heat caused the craft’s surface to peel and the experiment ended prematurely.

The Pentagon’s research arm calls hypersonic flight ‘the new stealth’ for its promise of evading and outrunning enemy fire. The effort to develop hypersonic engines is necessary because they can propel vehicles at a velocity that cannot be achieved from traditional turbine-powered jet engines.

Experts believe hypersonic missiles are the best way to hit a target in an hour or less. The only vehicle that the military currently has in its inventory with that kind of capability is the massive, nuclear-tipped intercontinental ballistic missile.

jonah hill disgusted kardashian, 'It's a super disgusting part of our culture': Now Jonah Hill takes aim at the Kardashians Actor Jonah Hill is angry about the success of the Kardashian family's reality TV shows.Last month, Daniel Craig, 43, ranted that the clan act like 'f***ing idiots' for money, and now the Moneyball actor has shared his take on their growing media empire.

Hill said that while he often finds himself watching one of their shows, he finds it 'disgusting' that they earn better ratings than higher quality scripted shows.
The 27-year-old said: 'The truth of it is, I have friends who work in TV and the Kardashians get higher ratings than their TV shows. Shows that people actually work hard on - writing and creating and trying to tell stories.

'The fact that the Kardashians could be more popular than a show like Mad Men is disgusting.

'It's a super disgusting part of our culture, but I still find it funny to make a joke about it.

'Whenever I say I like reality TV, people write about it like they're in shock.

'I can't even understand it, so I watch it,' he told The Huffington Post.

'I think it's funny and I definitely enjoy it in a making-fun-of-it sort of way, but where does the line sort of end? When do I stop making fun of it and become an actual fan?'

But the star doesn't put all the blame on Kourtney, 32, Kim, 31, and 27-year-old Khloe.

He added: 'The Kardashians are as famous as our president. What does that tell you about how skewed our society is?'

daniel craig kardashians idiots

daniel craig kardashians idiots, They have made millions from living their lives in the public eye thanks to their reality television shows.
But one person who is less than impressed by the Kardashian family is Daniel Craig, who launched an astonishing foul-mouthed rant at the brood, headed by Kim Kardashian, in a new interview with GQ magazine.
The James Bond star labelled the clan 'f***ing idiots' and criticised those who 'sell' themselves and then make demands about their private lives.Rant: Daniel Craig has labelled the Kardashians 'f*****g idiots' for making a career out of their private lives

Craig, who managed to keep his marriage to Rachel Weisz under wraps in the summer, told the January edition of GQ magazine: 'I think there's a lot to be said for keeping your own counsel.

'It's not about being afraid to be public with your emotions or about who you are and what you stand for. But if you sell it off it's gone.

'You can't buy it back - you can't buy your privacy back. Ooh I want to be alone. F*** you. We've been in your living room. We were at your birth. You filmed it for us and showed us the placenta and now you want some privacy?Screen stars: Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian have made millions from their reality television shows, including Keeping Up With The Kardashians and the current Kourtney And Kim Take New York

Referring to the Kardashians, Craig said: 'Look at the Kardashians, they're worth millions. I don't think they were that badly off to begin with but now look at them.

'You see that and you think "what, you mean all I have to do is behave like a f***ing idiot on television and then you'll pay me millions".

'I'm not judging it - well, I am obviously.'Loved up: Craig and wife Rachel Weisz managed to keep their wedding entirely secret this summer

Craig also spoke about his wedding to Weisz, and said that while they managed to keep it out of the spotlight, he doesn't feel victorious about the matter. He said: 'We got away with it. We did it privately and I've got a lot of people to thank for that. But that was the point, we did it for private reasons.

'Because we didn't want it f*****d up, because that would be sharing a secret. And the whole point is that it was a secret. A secret is a secret in my mind.'

Refusing to go into any details about the ceremony, Craig added: 'Look, I'm in love. I'm very happy. And that is as far as I'm prepared to go. Life is long, life goes wrong and I don't want to say something now that might be thrown back later.'

The 43-year-old, who is now working on the 23rd Bond film, Skyfall, can soon be seen in the English language remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

But he says despite his lengthy and successful career, he is still not happy with how things stand.

He said: 'I'm definitely not satisfied about my career. I don't know how you can be, it's the very nature of things.

'I'm always trying to figure it out, and I'm kind of unsatisfied constantly. I always want to get it right and I don't know what the answer to it is.

'But I do know that it's out there and I do know it's worth looking for.'

christina aguilera drunk jeremy renner, Christina Aguilera At Jeremy Renner's Party: Passes Out Drunk In His Bed Renner's rep tells us Aguilera was "clearly enjoying herself but she was not in his bed."
PREVIOUSLY: Christina Aguilera may have had too much fun at Jeremy Renner's birthday party -- which made for a less than fun time for him.Renner held a blowout bash for his 40th birthday in early January, invited stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Scarlett Johansson and Colin Farrell to help him celebrate. Aguilera was there, too -- and reportedly gave him a gift he didn't quite want.

Us Weekly reports that Aguilera was so drunk that she stumbled her way to Renner's bedroom, passing out on his bed, with her new boyfriend, Matthew Rutler, giving her a massage. That's when Renner walked in.

The magazine reports that Renner recounted the tale for friends at a Golden Globes after-party.

"Someone comes and tells me she's in my room," he told people. "I run up and open the door and I'm like, 'Um, hi. What are you doing?' She just starts slurring. Her boyfriend was rubbing her back. Who comes to someone's birthday party that they don't know and gets in their bed?! My parents were there!"

RadarOnline reported a similar story, saying that Aguilera was at one point being comforted by Rutler in a back room.Recently, it was confirmed that Renner will appear in 'Thor' as Hawkeye, the Avengers character he'll play in the future comic book ensemble film.

jeremy renner stupid kardashians zero talent

jeremy renner stupid kardashians zero talent, Jeremy Renner joins the growing list of actors to express an extreme distaste for the Kardashians. In a recent interview with the U.K. paper The Guardian, the "Bourne Legacy" star claimed that he never wanted to be famous, and while discussing the pitfalls of fame he unleashed his disdain for the reality TV family.

When the Kardashian name was mentioned by the interviewer, Renner reportedly rolled his eyes and then called them "ridiculous people with zero talent who spend their lives making sure everyone knows their name," adding that they are "stupid, stupid people."

As popular as the Kardashians are with their combined 41.7 million Twitter followers, multiple reality series and countless branded products, they have found few fans in Hollywood -- in fact, many actors seem to resent their very existence.

British actor Daniel Craig kicked off the Kardashian bashing in November 2011, expressing his anger to British GQ. Craig said that the Kardashians behave like "f*cking [idiots] on television" and then are rewarded with millions of dollars.

Likewise, actor Jonah Hill followed Craig's lead and told The Huffington Post in December, "The fact that the Kardashians could be more popular than a show like 'Mad Men' is disgusting. It's super disgusting to be a part of that culture."

It turned out that "Mad Men" star Jon Hamm himself shared Hill's sentiments and didn't hold back in an interview with Elle U.K., telling the magazine:

"Whether it's Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian or whoever, stupidity is certainly celebrated. Being a f**king idiot is a valuable commodity in this culture because you're rewarded significantly. Incuriousness has become cool… It’s celebrated. It doesn’t make sense to me."

The Kardashians know they aren't a favorite among serious actors, but they aren't OK with being called stupid either. Following Hamm's remarks, 31-year-old Kim responded via Twitter:

"I just heard about the comment Jon Hamm made about me in an interview. I respect Jon and I am a firm believer that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that not everyone takes the same path in life. We’re all working hard and we all have to respect one another. Calling someone who runs their own businesses, is a part of a successful TV show, produces, writes, designs, and creates, 'stupid,' is in my opinion careless."

The Bourne Legacy

The Bourne Legacy, The Bourne Legacy' Opening Weekend Brings In $40.3 Million At Box Office, Dethrones 'The Dark Knight Rises'"The Dark Knight Rises" has finally been ousted from the top seat at the box office, thanks to "The Bourne Legacy," which brought in $40.3 million its opening weekend, according to The Hollywood Reporter."The Bourne Legacy" didn't quite reach the $45 million mark it was on track for after its Friday box office performance, but it did boast an accomplishment in its opening
weekend: Despite the lack of Matt Damon, a new frontman -- Jeremy Renner -- carried this fourth "Bourne" film to the top spot. "The Bourne Legacy," directed by Tony Gilroy, not only proves that the franchise can survive without Damon, but that Renner can successfully carry the leading man role.

"If I'd been approached and asked to play Jason Bourne, it would have been a really easy 'no'. But this movie wasn't about filling Matt Damon's shoes," Renner told The Guardian. "It was a brand new canvas, and a brand new story. So the only pressure was to be able to perform in the style and physicality and ferocity of the action that had been established in the first three films."

Damon told HuffPost Entertainment that he just couldn't stick around for another "Bourne" installment. "The amount of stress that we were under and it was just nonstop for nine months -- in a kind of semi-panic. It was just a s----- feeling," he said. "[Dir. Paul Greengrass] turned to me on day 100 of the last Bourne movie we did ... and he just finally shook his head and he said, 'This just isn't fun.' And it wasn't."

Besides "The Bourne Legacy," it was a strong opening weekend at the box office for two other new films: "The Campaign" and "Hope Springs." "The Campaign," Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis' spoof on politics, debuted with $27.4 million, while Meryl Streep's latest "Hope Springs" opened with $20.1 million in its five-day debut weekend, THR reported.

"The Dark Knight Rises" fell behind "The Bourne Legacy" and "The Campaign" after taking the No. 1 spot for three weeks in a row. The film grossed grossed $19.5 million in its fourth weekend.

Red Dawn Remake Trailer

Red Dawn Remake Trailer - The official trailer for this year's remake of the 1984 hit movie "Red Dawn" has been released. The remake, like the original, focuses on a group of American high school students who fight back against invading forces.

Team Peeta, prepare yourself for a little brotherly confusion!

While Josh Hutcherson is quasi-enemies with Liam Hemsworth in "The Hunger Games," Hutcherson is now teaming up with Chris Hemsworth in the first trailer for "Red Dawn."

The revamp of the 1984 Cold War classic, which starred Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen, imagines a group of rogue teenagers coming together to save their newly-invaded country.
"Red Dawn" already fell into some hot water earlier this year when they replaced the original Chinese enemies -- for financial reasons -- with North Korean invaders. Take a look at the trailer above. Starring Hemsworth, Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, "Red Dawn" hits theaters November 21.

Jeremy Renner Kardashians

Jeremy Renner Kardashians - eremy Renner has hit out at the Kardashians claiming that they have "zero talent". The Bourne Legacy star slammed the family for being in the limelight just to be famous rather for having any skills.

Speaking to The Guardian newspaper, Renner said: "Oh, all those ridiculous people with zero talent who spend their lives making sure everyone knows their name. Those stupid, stupid people."

The Oscar-nominated star further admitted that despite becoming a successful actor, he never wanted to be famous.

He added: "One minute I'm homeless. The next I'm still homeless, but I'm in a tuxedo, on my way to the Oscars, stopping at a coffee shop to brush my teeth because I don't have running water. The next minute Jack Nicholson, someone I've admired my entire life, is right in front of me saying my name.
"Then he's saying the names of two movies I did and I'm like, 'Jesus, all I wanted to do was be in a movie that would play in a big enough theatre that my family would get to see it. And now this.' What can I say? It's weird. I know it's a cliche but I never wanted to be famous. I don't believe anybody wants to be famous."

Three Kangaroos Escape Zoo

Three Kangaroos Escape Zoo - Three kangaroos were able to escape from a German zoo near Frankfurt after a fox and another animal helped them get out. Two of the kangaroos didn't stray too far from the park and were brought back right away. The third kangaroo, however, disappeared for hours and was considered to be on the run. A police officer eventually spotted the animal and was able to chase it down.

Mick was recaptured today after he, Skippy and Jack took a trip down under when their helpers dug escape tunnels stretching below the fence of their enclosure.
‘Two of the three were then able to get out of the park entirely through another hole dug by a wild boar under the exterior fence.’
Despite the daring escape, nerves must have got the better of Skippy who stayed within the park’s grounds and was found the following morning.
Jack was spotted on in the early hours of Monday morning and caught after a long chase, while Mick was pounced on by a police officer this evening, according to the park’s Facebook page.
Mr Hoffman had previously described the kangaroo, which feasts on vegetables and grass, was ‘super friendly and super nice’ assuring members of the public that he posed no threat.
It said that all three were now safe and happily back in the deer park, which is also home to brown bears, wolves, birds of prey and lynxes.

States High Obesity Rates

States High Obesity Rates - According to a new government survey, the number of states with very high obesity rates has jumped from nine to 12. The new data is based on phone surveys done in 2011 that asked adults their height and weight.

Highest obesity rates in Southern, Midwestern states; Colorado has fewest obese, survey shows, A new government survey shows 12 states now have very high obesity rates.

Overall, more than a third of adults are obese but rates vary by state. The latest figures are based on a 2011 telephone survey that asked adults their height and weight. For the first time, households with only cell phones were included.

State rates remained about the same although states with very high rates went from nine to 12. At least 30 percent of adults are obese in Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas and West Virginia.
Colorado was lowest, at just under 21 percent, and Mississippi was highest at nearly 36 percent. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released the figures Monday.

Beaver Boy Scout Leader

Beaver Boy Scout Leader - A Boy Scout leader from New York is recovering after he was bitten by a beaver that had rabies. The man was reportedly swimming when the animal went through his legs and then bit him in the chest, leg and buttocks. One Boy Scout was able to pull the man to shore and then the rest of the group killed the animal.

Rabid beaver that attacked Boy Scout leader stoned to death by teenage troop members, A Boy Scout leader of a New York-based troop is recovering after being savagely attacked by a rabid beaver at the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area in Pennsylvania.
Mr Brousseau has received over 20 rabies shots and is said to be recovering well since being treated at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
The assistant scoutmaster had been co-leading a field trip in the Dutchess County park when he felt the animal between his legs in the water. Recalling the moment the beaver attached itself to his chest, he told the Poughkeepsie Journal: 'I thought it was a giant carp fish.'
But any such thoughts of over-sized goldfish were soon dispelled as the beaver took a bite at him.
Grabbing hold of his aggressor and attempting to cast it away from his body proved only a temporary solution as the rabid creature came back for more, biting at his leg, buttocks, arm, hand and waist.
