Romney Introduces Ryan As Next President - Oops! Mitt Romney introduces V.P. running mate Paul Ryan as 'the next president of the United States', Mitt Romney’s rivals didn’t have to wait long for the first gaffe of the new GOP ticket.
Romney gave his new running mate an accidental promotion on Saturday, introducing Paul Ryan at a massive Virginia rally as “the next PRESIDENT of the United States."
After realizing he accidentally promoted his VP pick to commander-in-chief, Romney returned to the podium and slung an arm around Ryan.
"Every now and then I'm known to make a mistake,” Romney said. “I did not make a mistake with this guy.”
He then gave his intro another try, correcting himself to say Ryan will be “the next VICE president of the United States.”
ROMNEY MAKES IT OFFICAL, ANNOUNCES RYAN FOR V.P.
The gaffe prompted a flurry of jokes on Twitter, but some noted that Romney wasn’t the first White House contender to make that mistake.
When announcing Joe Biden as his running make in 2008, then-candidate Barack Obama also introduced him as the next president before quickly correcting himself.
