5 In Hospital Shooting At Austin-area Walmart - 5 people, ages 18 and 19, are currently in the hospital after a shooting at an Austin-area Walmart parking lot early Sunday morning, and police are still investigating the cause.
The 5 men who are currently in an Austin-area hospital were shot by another another teen, and a woman who works near the Walmart said she heard gunshots in the parking lot.
"This morning at 4:30 a.m. I heard a 'pop, pop, pop,' like firecrackers," the woman said. "All of a sudden I saw police and ambulance."
Police said a crowd of teenagers met in the middle of the parking lot at the store near Highway 183 and FM 1431 ready to finish a fight they started earlier.
"This stemmed from a party that occurred possibly somewhere either in Williamson County or Leander, in which there was alcohol consumed at that party," said Cedar Park Police Chief Henry Fluck.
Fluck said 18-year-old Soloman Onwukaife pulled out a handgun, shooting the four unidentified victims. The chief said quick action by a police officer led to Onwukaife's arrest.
"The responding patrol officer got there very promptly -- within three to four minutes from the call -- and he confronted the suspect at gunpoint and the suspect complied," Fluck said.
Three of the four victims were in critical but stable condition at local hospitals. The fourth victim was treated and released. Onwukaife was also hospitalized, being treated for a face injury that occurred during the fight; however, he is in police custody. He is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
No Walmart employees or customers were injured. The store closed briefly as police conducted their investigation and re-opened around 9 a.m.
