Chris Colfer ‘TIME’ 100 Most Influential People - It’s that time of year again — time for TIME magazine to release it’s annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world. And while the 2011 list boasts the usual political suspects — such as Barack and Michelle Obama, Joe Biden and Julian Assange — there are some pop-culture surprises on there as well.
Emmy-winning actor Chris Colfer, who has won raves for his role as openly gay teen Kurt on Glee, made the list! The TIME blurb about Colfer is written by his Glee cast mate, Dianna Agron, who has this to say about her costar: “Chris, 20, lives by extreme truth, speaking out against the epidemic of bullying that he, too, faced in high school. The honesty that he infuses into his Glee character, Kurt, leaves you reeling.”
We certainly agree with that, and we look forward to Colfer’s continually impressive performances on Glee, as well as to his upcoming movie debut in Struck by Lightning and the TV pilot he just sold to Disney. Colfer is a talented young man whose message of kindness and tolerance has obviously influenced millions of people.
Young singing sensation Justin Bieber also made the cut, and while it might seem strange to see Barack Obama and the Biebs on the same list, Justin’s friend Usher has this to say about the young star in TIME: “From the minute I met Justin, I knew this kid possessed a certain confidence that only a star could have. He was born a star. He knew what he wanted to accomplish; all he had to do was get everyone else to believe it. Now, looking back at his incredible run, the reality of who he is and what he’s accomplished far exceeds anybody’s expectations of him.”
In just four years, the 17-year-old Bieber has managed to turn a couple of Youtube clips into a gigantic entertainment phenomenon, generating him a huge fortune and adulation the world over. What is next for the young star? TIME will tell!
Also landing a spot on the list are Gossip Girl actress Blake Lively, Grammy-winning singer Bruno Mars, controversial Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, Parks and Recreation comedienne Amy Poehler, soon-to-be-weds Prince William and Kate Middleton, and — of course — Oprah Winfrey.
